Welcome to the Weekly Wrap-up for Friday, 19 January 2018. There is plenty of HGC news to be had, with play in many regions getting underway in the next few days – including our own Premier Pre-Season Qualifier. There’s also a bunch of new skins, a cheeky patch and a giveaway to get your hands on and much more, so grab a coffee and get comfy!
Read on to see what you may have missed this week:
► The big news that has the scene buzzing is the official announcement of the ANZ HGC Premier Pre-Season Qualifier. Teams looking to join Nomia, Outlaws and Crimson Gaming in Phase One of the ANZ HGC Premier League will first need to prove their worth in this four week Bo1 Swiss bracket that is set to commence on Tuesday 23 January. Sign ups close Monday 22 January, so get in quick!
► Heroes Untapped, the home-grown vodcast hosted by Disconcur and Blank, is set to return in 2018. The first episode of the year will air on Monday 22 January at 8.30pm AEDT on twitch.tv/disconcur – just in time for the first week of pre-season! No word yet on who will be making guest appearances.
► In case you missed it earlier this week, part three of our Year in Review series has dropped. This one is close to our hearts, as it takes a look at the crazy year that we had right here in Australia and New Zealand. It’s a must-read in the lead up to competitive play firing up again in our region next week.
► The third Unreal Aussies Clash of Clans was held on Sunday, where their community comes up against the Onyx Guild in a friendly tournament. You can check out a highlight video of all the action here.
► The lads over at Crimson Gaming are currently running a Blaze hero code + skin giveaway over on their Twitter. Click here to enter!
► Shifting focus to NA and EU HGC news now, Blizzard have announced a few changes to the HGC structure for 2018. This includes a shake-up of the casting desk – most notably the addition of JHow to fill in for GillyWeed and Dreadnaught, who each have scheduling conflicts that are preventing them from full time casting during Phase One.
► Amateur community tournament organisers HeroesHype will be managing the HGC Open Division in both NA and EU.
► Simplicity have announced their acquisition of the Old Gods roster ahead of HGC kicking off in North America. The team boasts household names such as KingCaffeine and Zuna, and is backed by Memphis Grizzlies minority owner Jed Kaplan.
► Another patch was deployed earlier this week. This one focuses on Tyrael, while also addressing a few cheeky bugs that managed to slip through.
► Here is the Weekly Collection Update for 16-23 January 2018.
► Finally, we leave you with this clip that was submitted to us by Coffee. There’s a language warning on this one, so you may want to turn your speakers down if you’re at work! Be sure to send in any sweet ANZ content to us via Twitter or Facebook for a chance to have it featured in next week’s Weekly Wrap-up.
That’s all for this week. Good luck to the teams competing in the ANZ HGC Premier Pre-Season Qualifier next Tuesday!
