Summer Showdown Tournament Happening February 20

The Summer Showdown is back in February, and the prize pool for this best of three double elimination tournament has been doubled to $500. In another small change to the event, it is no longer being split over two days and will instead take place from 11am AEDT on Saturday, 20 February.

Originally slated to begin on the 30 January, the two day Summer Showdown tournament was rescheduled after the details of the Spring Championship were released to the public by Blizzard Entertainment and ESL Australia. It was during this down time that the event organiser, Disconcur, made the decision to remove the controversial two day split for the event.

“February is a massive month for team tournaments, and in the lead up to the Season One finals at the end of the month, I am aware that some teams will be incredibly busy, while others may be fatigued after a two weekends’ worth of qualifiers.

Keeping that in mind, it did not seem like the right time to try and introduce a new, untested format that may make the tournament less appealing to those teams who are strapped for time.” — Disconcur, event organiser

In addition to changing the date, the prize pool has also been doubled from $250 to $500. The team that places first will receive $250, second place will receive $175, and third place will receive $75. The prize money has been donated by, as well as members of the community who share Disconcur’s desire to grow local competitive play in an meaningful and fair environment.

The tournament itself is a fairly standard one day event that will be streamed live on ANZheroesTV, with upper bracket games being best of three, and lower bracket games being best of one:
