ANZ Heroes have teamed up with Shihiro to put together a comprehensive 12 week league with a AU$2,000 prize pool up for grabs. To raise this money, the team have launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise the funds needed to ensure the event can go ahead.
Eight teams from region will compete in the 12 week long Round Robin league with the hopes of securing a spot in the finals and a chance at winning their share of the AU$2,000 prize pool. These games will take place on select Sundays for the duration of the league, and all matches will be streamed live to http://www.twitch.tv/anzheroestv with casting by both veteran and up-and-coming casters from our region.
Teams will play a single best of three game each week (except bye weeks) to earn points towards a leader board. The top four scoring teams will be invited to participate in the grand final tournament, which will consist of a single day, single elimination bracket best of 3 games with the Grand Final being best of 5.
The Kickstarter was born after concerns were raised that–while the league is a good idea in theory–teams would be less likely to stick together for an extended period without some kind of incentive to do so. While bigger scenes can source funding from sponsors, the Australian and New Zealand scene is still in its infancy, and so it was decided that adopting a more formal version of the ANZ Showdown prize funding would be a better approach.
The prize pool is currently set to AU$2,000, with 70% of additional funds raised being added to that total if the Kickstarter exceeds its funding goal. However, if the Kickstarter fails to reach the funding goal, the Autumn League will not go ahead.
There are a variety of backer rewards up for grabs, including custom wallpapers, stubby holders and limited edition t-shirts. You can expect to see designs in the next few weeks.
We hope you guys are excited about the possibility of 12 weeks of Australian and New Zealand competitive Heroes of the Storm action as we are!
